SULKIT / THE STARTER
Meet Nuruk.
The Korean fermentation starter behind makgeolli.
Rice gives the brew its body. Nuruk helps make the grain's starch available for fermentation. Together with water and time, they become something new.

THE ESSENTIAL IDEA
Rice alone
is not enough.
Nuruk is a traditional Korean fermentation starter made from grain. Its enzymes help break down starch in rice into sugars. During fermentation, microorganisms use those sugars, helping turn the mixture into makgeolli.
Rice supplies the grain base.
Enzymes help make rice starch available as sugars.
Microorganisms use those sugars as the brew develops.

ROOTED IN KOREA
The starter
in your hands.
SULKIT brings Korean rice and nuruk together in a prepared powder. Add water and follow the instructions for your product to begin brewing your own makgeolli.
The powder is alcohol-free before fermentation. Alcohol develops as the mixture ferments, and the result depends on brewing conditions.
